Sardinian Warbler (Sylvia melanocephala)

This bird is of average size for a warbler, measuring around 14 to 16 cm long. This is a distinctive bird, with a deep black head and red eye, white breast, and graded grey wings. Males and females look similar, although females’ heads are less black, and the light grey plumage is more light brown. Males also have a small tuft of feather on the top of the head that females do not have.

This bird likes open country, particularly enjoying areas of low vegetation and scrub. It can often be found around agricultural land.

Like other warblers, this bird’s primary food is insects, however it will also eat berries and other soft fruits.
