Eurasian Stone-Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus)


The Stone-Curlew has a length of 41cm and can weigh between 370-450 g. It is a striking bird with a mix of brown, white and black plumage, having a type of cryptic colour pattern. Whilst in flight, it has an array of white and black markings on its wings.Stone-Curlews’ have a yellow beak and black beak, yellow eyes and yellowish legs.The Stone-Curlew is a nocturnal bird, which sings loud wailing songs during this period.


The Stone-Curlew predominately dwell in open stony fields and heaths 


Stone-Curlews’ feed mainly on invertebrates, and occasionally reptiles, frogs and rodents.


This species is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
