Starred Agama (Stellagama stellio)

Description

The starred agama is a medium-sized lizard reaching a length of about 35 cm. Like the chameleon, this agama can change colour to display mood. This species has very characteristic markings which form star-like shapes along the middle of their backs.

Habitat

You can find it in a variety of dry habitats which include olive groves, amongst rocks and within rock crevices on dry stone walls.

Diet

This animal mainly feeds on hymenoptera insects and plant materials.

Protection status

This species is listed as “Least Concern” by IUCN Red List.

Interesting Fact

The starred agama is a territorial species and shows aggression by bobbing its head.
