Anatolian rock lizard (Lacerta anatolica)

Description

The Anatolian rock lizard is dark olive brown with pale spots along its body. Sometimes the spots are very close together and instead form pale stripes along the length of the body. The length of this common lizard is about 7.5 cm.

Habitat

It can be found in rocky habitats and in forested areas, often near to a water source. This species is found on islands off the coast of Anatolia, including Ikaria, Rhodes, Samos and the South and Western parts of Turkey.

Diet

This lizard eats mainly insects, but sometimes predates upon other invertebrates.

Protection status

This species is listed as “Least Concern” by IUCN Red List.
