Anatolian worm (Blanus strauchi)


Blanus strauchi looks like an earthworm, hence its common name (Anatolian worm). It can grow to about 20 cm. It has a dark brown, violet, or grey colour. It has no legs and its eyes are vestigial.


It lives underground in areas of soft sand and soil.


The Anatolian worm's diet consists of arthropods like ants, and insect larvae.

Protection status

This species is listed as “Least Concern” by IUCN Red List.
