Javelin sand boa (Eryx jaculus)


The javelin sand boa can grow to a length of 84 cm. It has rudimentary hind legs at the base of its tail, which is a characteristic of most boas.


Usually, this boa lies underneath sand or soil in steppes and semi-arid deserts or anywhere where the soil is suitable for burrowing. This includes vineyards and agricultural land.


Its diet consists of small mammals, lizards and birds.

Protection status

This species is listed as “Least Concern” by IUCN Red List.
