Ottoman viper (Montivipera xanthina)

Description

The Ottoman viper has a venomous bite like all vipers. It can grow to a length of 70-95 cm. This viper will hibernate, often communally, for the winter if the climate necessitates it.

Habitat

It can be found in mountainous or hilly areas, stony hillsides, open woods, pastures, meadows and swamps.

Diet

It feeds on rodents, other small mammals, lizards and birds.

Protection status

This species is listed as “Least Concern” by IUCN Red List.
